This is likely to be a continuing issue as I complete projects. It is when I create a pencil and paper art project. Sometimes I have a bunch of choices of things that I want to work on and sometimes, I have not put much thought into it so I have nothing ready. Both can be challenging.
In the case of my 3D art projects, I have been making a list of things that I want to work on or create. Some are strictly a still piece of art. Some are complete animations with story and everything. And at least two are more instructional animations, but maybe with some fun.
The real challenge in choosing something right now is trying not to get so far beyond my skill set that I get frustrated or burn out on the project. Or, I finish it, as minimally as possible. I don’t want to do that. I would like for the projects and things you see here to be of the best quality I can manage at the time. Hopefully that means the quality will get better as I learn more and get more experience with what I’m doing.
Some of the time that it took for the last project to render was spent in trying to decide on the next project. I will learn from all of them that I have laid out to do. Though some will require me to learn many things just for the one project. Of the things I know I will need to learn, are how to create and apply my own textures and materials instead of using the ones built into 3ds Max, also character rigging for animation, actual character animation, and better lighting techniques. That doesn’t even cover the improved modeling techniques I hope to learn.
After much deliberation I decided on a project that should be fairly simple to model, I hope, and yet will allow me to start to learn to create my own textures and utilize UV layouts to get the look I really want. I will be refreshing/recreating the logo for my other blog site suguayproductions.com. The original logo for it was created in 3D Studio Release 4 when I was in school. I have since then created it in Adobe Illustrator so I could do a little more with it. Now I think it will be fun to update it in 3ds Max.
As with this last project, I will be posting bits about the logo recreation as I go.
