There’s not a lot happening in my world at the moment that makes for really interesting, relatable, or insightful stuff to write about. It’s just that time of year I think.
I’m coming up on some time off from the day job. This time it’s two weeks of time off. I’m not planning on going anywhere. This will be one of those stay-cations where I will probably do as much stuff as if I were at the day job, it will just be different stuff. It won’t start with the hard work though, I will be kicking things off with a Blues Jam. One that I won’t have to get up early the next day.
That’s right. I get to basically start my vacation with rockin’ out or bluesin’ out, if you prefer. There’s a jam coming up this weekend and I’m excited as I think I’ve worked out a thing or two that were giving me some trouble. I haven’t had a lot of practice time though so that’s one of the first things I’ll be doing when I get off from the day job at the weekend. I’ll be practicing before then as well, it’s just I’ll take advantage of knowing I don’t have to have stuff ready for Monday and maybe let a few things slide while I enjoy some of that really good, fun practice time.
Yes, I intend to have video from this upcoming jam. And, yes, I do still have video to edit and post from the last jam. I’ll try to get that up before this next one but no guarantees. I’ve got a few things I’m working on that kind of put that a little on the back burner until the vacation starts. When all those hours spent at the day job can be spent on other things.
I call it a vacation but really I think it’s just going to be a work redirection time period. Like I usually do, I have a few things that I really need or want to get done while I’m off. Some of it is stuff that is just easier to do while off from work and some of it is stuff that I’m just having trouble getting to during a regular week. There’s so many things that I started making a list. Not a ‘To Do’ list though. That’s what I usually do and then I’m really disappointed when I only get one or two things done. This time I’m calling it a “Things I Could Do While On Vacation” list. This way it takes some pressure off so that I don’t feel that I have to get it all done. Which is good because the list is pretty long. As I was making the list, I got half way down the page and realized there wasn’t anything on there that would really be considered fun. So I added a few of those types of things. I might go see a movie or two.
Mostly what I plan to do while off from the day job, besides the stuff that’s hard to get to during a regular week, is study and play guitar. That sounds pretty simple and no stress. It’s probably not at all how it’s going to go. I have a few other things to do besides that. I will still be trying to get as much stuff done as I can. I’m just going to try to focus on the study for that test I told you about a few weeks ago. I’m also planning on spending a lot of time in the music room with a guitar or two. I have a few things I want to really focus on there and I’m looking forward to some bigger chunks of time to really dig into them.
And finally, I’m hoping to get some cleaning done. I’ve lived in my place for about six years now which means I’m coming up on the second cycle where I haven’t moved. It’s time to clean out. My family used to move, what seemed like, every three years. As much as this seems like it might have been a hassle, the great thing about it is that it keeps you from accumulating too much stuff, or at least gets you cleaning out the stuff you don’t need, more often. I’m at the point that I have things I stuck in cabinets and cupboards when I moved in that I haven’t seen or used since. Time to pull some of that out and find it an opportunity to be useful elsewhere. So, I’m planning on getting a bit of that type of stuff done.
Sounds like an exciting time, don’t you think? Actually, I really am looking forward to it. All of it. Even the cleaning. There are days when I feel like there’s so much to do that I need more hours in my days, and then there are days when I realize that there really are enough hours to do it all, it just depends on how I organize it. Getting a few of those projects and such knocked out will free up a bunch of mental space, and maybe even closet space, so that I have more days where I feel like I really can get it all done.
