Not Every Week is Exciting

Where to start and what to write? This is a regular challenge when I sit down to write my post. Sometimes the idea comes quick and fast and other times, I have too many things to say and can’t put them together in a way that I don’t sound like I’m just blathering words from my fingers. Sometimes, I have big ideas and want to write about those except I can’t find a way to put it all in a smaller format so that you aren’t reading for days.

I have one of those bigger ideas. And I started to write about it for today. I wrote a lot of it and realized that I might be able to do better with it. I have more to say than what I feel I can put in a single post. I feel like some of it needs more explanation and by adding that it would make a single post too long to read. So I think I’m going to make it multi-part post. And as I was thinking about how to put together this multi-part post and what I want to say in it, I realized I think I need to make some changes and upgrades. Yes, that thunk you heard was my head hitting the desk because I’ve just figured out that I have a bit of a project ahead of me. It’s a project I new was coming and hadn’t built up the courage to tackle yet. Fortunately, I have vacation coming up, and I haven’t made any plans for it. Well, other than studying.

I’ve finally made the move in the studying to actually take a practice test. The result wasn’t quite as bad as I expected. And I had at least two maybe three questions that I second guessed myself on. I had the right answer to begin with and then chose a different one. The nice thing is I can go back and look at the correct answers and read the explanation as to why it was the right one, and even why the others were wrong. I think I actually learn more from this process than I do from reading the book. Though the book gives me a starting point for the tests so it’s still helpful.

Newly potted lettuce, or salad greens.

This week is a little bit of a challenge for me at the day job. My manager/supervisor is on vacation all week which leaves just me holding things together and trying to keep things from getting out of hand. And while this has been the case before, it’s a little different with us all working remote. I have other resources I can call on for information and input, as has been the case in the past. It just feels different. So I’m going to try to approach it different.

Because I had this week coming up, I had a hard time settling into something fun to do this weekend. I managed to practice a little guitar. I’m trying to get the fingers back in shape and that requires more regular practice. I’m not getting to it every day yet. Still, I did better than the week before.

My big wins for last week were finishing the 3D printing. Or I thought I had. On Saturday I realized I needed to print 3 more sets of the plug, for myself, so I did that. And then yesterday I found that I need to print one or two more items. All of that has to do with the potting of the lettuce that I did on Friday, and then talking to my neighbor/co-worker about plants and wanting to get her a clipping of one of mine. I did still finish the bulk of the printing. Yay.

The other big win was potting some of the lettuce. I still have one more in the Aerogarden that I need to pot. I think I have finally decided how I want to handle that even though I may have killed the other two that I was going to put it with. Once that comes out it will be time to clean and then start a new batch.

Coconut Lime Rice.
The picture doesn’t show the bits of Lime Zest.

As I was looking at pictures to use for this post I found something else I managed to do that was different last week. I tackled making Coconut Lime Rice. I’d been getting these packets at the grocery store of Thai Lime Rice with Coconut that you just heat up and I thought it quite tasty. I hadn’t paid very good attention to the cost at first and then when it clicked with me I decided maybe I could make it because that seemed a lot for just two servings. So I looked for a recipe online and the closest I found that wasn’t too challenging was Coconut Lime Rice. In addition to not quite being the same thing, the packets also have Lemongrass in them. Which I know adds quite an aroma as well as flavor and if I knew where to get some and how to use it I might try it. Still this turned out to be a fairly easy recipe, and quite tasty. There are one or two things I might do to adjust the recipe. Even with that, it smelled and tasted like eating a summer’s day at the beach. It was yum.

With a little luck and stubbornness I should be able to get some guitar practice in as well as some Blender time before next week’s post. I’ll start tackling my other project, along with that multi-part post. It looks like I will be quite busy for the next few weeks.
