Welcome to my next project. Recreating my Suguay Productions logo in 3ds Max 2015. I created this logo many years ago while in college. It was part of an assignment and I have used it on one of my websites off and on over the years. I am using a version of it now but I think it needs some updating. So that’s what I’m going to do.
As you may have read, I have chosen this particular project for its relatively simple modeling requirements so that I can focus on learning how to create and work with UVs or UVWs. I will just call them UVs and they are used for texturing models. They take a flattened view of your model and lay it out in a pattern. If you have ever sewn a garment you probably used a pattern. UVs are basically that. They are the flat pattern for creating the 3D object. The reason to use UVs instead of just the materials built into 3ds Max is because they allow for greater customization of you textures.
Here is a look at the Logo. This version of it was created in Adobe Illustrator a few years ago so I had something I could work with. It looks a little cartoon like to me and I would like it to look a bit more realistic. I hope.
Most of this will be created using cylinders. I told you, really easy modeling.
I created the first cylinder for the barrel of the pen part and then made a copy and scaled it down to the height and circumference I needed. And then I did it again. I tested adding the turbosmooth modifier since I will probably want to use that for all the components in the final render and found a great need for edge loops for the ends so that the cylinder maintained the cylinder shape and not a bullet type shape.
I know, it is not very exciting so far. It just a start. At this point it really could be a lot of things. Trust me it will be a 3D version of that logo graphic.
