Once again, this week was all digital. I didn’t do any work on the paintings. Though I did think about it at least one day. Things are still a bit in flux around my place and that contributes to my productivity, and sometimes lack of it. It also doesn’t help when I have to spend a good chunk of time doing work for the day job in the middle of the weekend.
It’s hard to really get into something when you know you will have to interrupt it, even if you might only work on something for a little while. It’s a mindset thing. And then afterwards there’s the getting caught up on the things that didn’t get the usual attention during that time and wanting to relax. And that doesn’t even cover the work I’m trying to get done around my place. I still have that shower to finish up and I have a few things still to find new homes from the wall painting over the summer. So yeah, things in a bit of a flux.
In spite of that I did manage to work on the Halloween card this week. I finished up the materials and I have started working on the lighting. I had hoped to be able to get a good light source just from the porch light but that doesn’t seem to be working quite as I’d like. I also tried making the material inside the jack’o lantern self illuminating and that didn’t quite work out either. I did ok adding a faint light inside the building to help with a some secondary lighting. I may end up adding a spotlight and point it at the jack’o lantern and the cauldron so that I can get them lit well enough to really see them. We’ll see. The only other thing I am still undecided about is adding a sign to the scene for the candy. I’ve got a couple of ideas for it but I haven’t decided what would be right. I’m also considering not putting it in. Instead, after I render the scene I would use Photoshop and add the text in that area where I’m thinking about putting the sign. I’m just not sure yet. Even with that last little bit, I’m getting so close. I might even get the card up by Halloween. I’m sure trying. Here are a few shots of what I’ve been fiddling with.
I am expecting to be able to post a notice that the card is live and ready for purchase some time before the next update. Once that happens, I’ll be back to finishing up the shower, rearranging my furniture, and working on the paintings. And I’ll be trying to decide which digital project to dive back into. And since I’m not sure what order all those things will get done in, you might want to check back next week.
